Needling Techniques Workshop

Needle manipulation techniques are key to enhancing therapeutic effects of your treatment and this popular and highly practical seminar always receives excellent feedback. This is a refresher in core needling skills presented systematically, the way it is taught in China's traditional medical schools. The workshop covers point finding, insertion, methods of obtaining qi and acting on qi using bu, fa and even needling methods. You then learn techniques for qi propagation and some Daoist acupuncture techniques developed in the Song dynasty.


A fantastic course for acupuncturists of all levels from those with 25 + years experience, to those of you just starting out and wishing to sharpen your skills and increase your confidence. Roughly 50% of the time is spent on needling practice.


Moxa & Cupping Magic Workshop

Acupuncture is expert stimulation with therapeutic intent but emphasis is often put on needles - moxa and other techniques can be left out in the cold! Rediscover all the fun you had forgotten about with this refresher session led by an inspirational and experienced tutor. You will renew your understanding of moxa and cupping skills, learn more about their application, practice techniques in a supportive setting and pick up a range of clinical tips.

  • Forms and qualities of moxa
  • Moxa techniques, indications & contraindications
  • Moxa as preventative
  • Avoiding and dealing with accidents
  • What makes you think it does anything? - moxa's effects from a biomedical perspective
  • Direct moxa; cones, grain, thread, stick-ons, discussion on scarring moxa, 
  • Indirect moxa: warm needling, pole methods, partition methods, moxa boxes, tiger warmer
  • Cupping: indications, contraindications, methods and safety
  • Basic cupping skills, sliding and "wet" cupping

TREATING SPORTS INJURIES WITH ACUPUNCTURE WITH KEVIN YOUNG

During this two-day seminar, Kevin will be teaching the basic skills used to diagnose and treat sports and musclo-skeletal injuries, and the subsequent treatment using Chinese medicine modalities. Open to acupuncturists of all levels including final year students with basic grounding in western and anatomy and physiology.

 

You will cover;

 Assessment of different categories of muscle strains
 Differentiation of haematomas and an outline of conventional treatment
 How to rehabilitate muscle weakness with stretch, exercise and gym routines
 First aid techniques for injuries > When to refer patients on to another medical practitioner
 Examination of injured joints including the knee, shoulder girdle, the spine, ankle, elbow and wrist
 Acupuncture techniques, such as thread needling, eagle claw, star fish formation, ah-shi points, electro-acupuncture, cupping and moxibustion
 Tui na techniques used in sports teams, and when and where to use them
 General exercises for wellbeing and their importance to sports personnel
 Patent herbal remedies and balms for the treatment of bruising and injury
